A skylight, known in Dutch as a daklicht, dakraam, or veluxraam (after a popular brand), is a window set into the roofline of a building. Its purpose is to flood a room with natural light, particularly in spaces that may not have traditional vertical windows. Skylights are most commonly found on the top floor of a house or in apartments located in the attic (zolderverdieping). They are incredibly effective at making a space feel brighter, larger, and more open. Modern skylights are well-insulated and can often be opened to provide ventilation. The presence of one or more skylights is a significant asset, transforming what might otherwise be a dark attic or interior room into a bright and pleasant living space.
