Energy-efficient windows are a critical feature of any modern, comfortable, and affordable home. In the Netherlands, this term almost always refers to some form of High-Efficiency (Hoog Rendement - HR) multi-pane glass. Unlike old single-pane glass (enkel glas) or basic double glazing (dubbel glas), HR windows are engineered to provide superior thermal insulation. The most common standard today is HR++ glass, which consists of two panes of glass with a transparent heat-reflecting coating on one of the inner surfaces and an inert gas like Argon filling the space between them. This combination is highly effective at keeping heat inside during the winter and outside during the summer. For a tenant, the presence of energy-efficient windows is a crucial feature to look for, as it directly translates to lower energy bills, reduced drafts, and a much more comfortable indoor climate.
