Arrange water with Dunea and keep both sides of your move in view

Registering the new home does not replace cancelling the old one

Dunea supplies a coastal and urban area of South Holland, including much of The Hague and Leiden. Its moving process separates a new water registration from cancellation at the previous home. Use the profile to orient yourself on coverage, readings and bills, then confirm the exact property rather than relying on a city name alone.

About Dunea

Who Dunea is, where it supplies drinking water and what renters should check first.

Dunea is the drinking-water supplier for a coastal and urban service area in South Holland, including much of The Hague and Leiden. Its moving process has separate registration and cancellation steps. For renters, the key questions are who pays the supplier, which meter belongs to the home, and which readings apply at key handover.

Where Dunea supplies water

Dunea's area does not equal all of South Holland or every part of a named city. Its official coverage list excludes Wateringse Veld in The Hague and Moordrecht, while including Nesselande in Rotterdam. Always confirm the actual address.

Your Dunea account, step by step

From registering a new home to the final bill: how Dunea handles each step, with a direct link to the official page for it.

  1. Step 1

    Register a home with Dunea

Dunea asks you to register when you receive the keys so you can supply the actual opening reading. Use its water-supply application, not just the annual meter-reading form. The online process asks for the handover date and the household details needed for the advance. Before registering, check your tenancy agreement and ask who holds the water account. A separate meter does not by itself prove that you need a direct contract: the landlord may invoice the water. Confirm the arrangement to avoid paying twice.

  2. Step 2

    Meter readings for Dunea

The annual reading page is for the supplier's yearly request. Dunea directs moving readings through the registration/cancellation flow and may ask for the inspection or handover report as supporting evidence. Where the home has a meter, check that it serves your home, especially in a shared meter cupboard. Follow the supplier’s display instructions and do not invent a reading if access is impossible. Ask the landlord or building manager for access or a dated reading. For a genuinely unmetered home, confirm the applicable billing arrangement instead.

    Submit a reading
  3. Step 3

    Moving with Dunea

Close the old supply separately, even when the new address is also served by Dunea. Record the final reading when you return the keys. Dunea warns that cancellation reported more than sixty days after handover may be dated from receipt; contact customer service immediately if you are late. At each key handover, record the actual reading and meter number if the home has a meter, photograph the display and keep the handover report. For an unmetered supply, confirm the supplier’s or landlord’s billing arrangement instead. Use the dates you receive and return the keys, which may differ from the day you move your belongings. Keep the supplier’s confirmation and a forwarding address for the final bill.

  4. Step 4

    Bills and tariffs at Dunea

Dunea charges for consumption and availability through a fixed charge, with applicable taxes. A change in household size can affect the advance. Use the current tariff schedule and check whether displayed amounts include tax before estimating your costs. An instalment is an advance, not an all-inclusive price. For a metered supply, compare opening and closing readings; for an unmetered supply, verify the applicable units or billing category. Check the billing dates, consumption, fixed charges and tax lines on the settlement. A short tenancy or low consumption does not automatically remove applicable fixed charges. Use the current official tariff schedule rather than a national average to budget.

Questions about Dunea

Answers about registering, moving, meter readings, bills and water quality with Dunea, based on its official pages.

Should I arrange Dunea before moving day or wait until I have the keys?

Dunea asks you to apply when you receive the keys, so you can supply the actual meter reading for that date. The furniture-moving day may be later. Keep the key date, reading and confirmation together, because those establish the start of your supply account.

I am staying with Dunea. Do I still have to cancel my old address?

Yes. Dunea treats the new application and the old cancellation as separate steps. Register the new home and cancel the old supply using the reading from the day you return its keys. Cancelling directly through Dunea's own website is free; there is no need for a paid cancellation intermediary.

I forgot to cancel Dunea after leaving. Can the end date still be corrected?

Act promptly. Dunea says a cancellation reported more than sixty days after key handover is normally dated from receipt. Its guidance describes a possible correction involving registration by the current occupant, so contact customer service with your handover evidence rather than assuming any past date will be accepted.

Why does Dunea ask for an inspection report during my move?

It means the handover document recording the meter readings, not a separate technical inspection you must commission. Your landlord or agent may call it an opleverrapport, verhuisformulier or overdrachtsformulier. Dunea allows the relevant document to be attached or scanned; keep your own copy too.

I changed my postal address in Mijn Dunea. Is my water contract moved as well?

No. Dunea distinguishes contact details from the supply contract. A postal-address change tells it where to send correspondence; it does not replace registering a new supply address or cancelling the old one. Complete the moving steps and check that the confirmation names the correct supply address.

Is Dunea's drinking water simply groundwater from the dunes?

The dunes are part of the treatment system, not the whole story. Dunea identifies the Afgedamde Maas as an important river-water source in its drinking-water explanation. For the composition of the water it supplies, use Dunea's quality information rather than inferring hardness or purity from the word 'duinwater'.

Can I choose a different water supplier at this address?

Drinking-water supply is organised by service area. Check your address with Dunea or the Vewin finder; a lower tariff elsewhere does not make that company available at your home. You must still arrange registration or a move when you are the account holder.

Water is included in my rent. Should I register myself?

Ask the landlord who holds the supplier contract and how your water costs are settled. If the landlord supplies and bills the water, first clarify that arrangement instead of opening a second account. Ask for the supplier invoice, relevant readings and an explanation of any shared-cost allocation.

I cannot find the meter or the opening reading. What should I do?

Look in the handover report and ask the landlord or building manager which meter serves the property. Photograph the current display and contact Dunea if the handover reading is missing. Do not submit a neighbour's reading, a guessed value or an invented zero. If the home is genuinely unmetered, ask which billing category applies rather than inventing a reading.

There is a leak or no hot water in my rental. Who should I contact?

Use the supplier's official fault page for a mains outage or suspected network problem. For a leak inside the building, shared pressure equipment or a hot-water appliance, also contact the landlord or building manager promptly. A hot-water-only fault does not establish a drinking-water network outage.
