Hengelo
Hengelo is the next big town along the line from Enschede, with Intercity and Sprinter trains, a rebuilt centre with a theatre and venues, and many students and graduates.
- Easy commute
- City feel
- Student friendly
Hengelo is Twente's second city and a railway junction, with Intercity and Sprinter services running to Enschede and a fast cycle route joining the two. For people who study at the University of Twente or Saxion, or work in Enschede, it keeps campus and jobs within easy reach while offering a city of its own, with a centre, a theatre opposite the station and a pop venue behind it.

Hengelo's homes reflect its industrial rise and postwar rebuilding: prewar terraces and the Tuindorp 't Lansink garden village, postwar flats and rental blocks, courtyard districts of winding lanes, and newer areas dominated by family houses. Because bombing destroyed much of the centre, it feels more modernist than Enschede's mix of old streets and converted textile sites, and many students and graduates live here.
