Lelystad
Lelystad lies further along the Flevoland line from Almere: another planned polder city, but smaller and closer to harbours, wetlands and the open lake.

Almere and Lelystad grew out of the same reclamation of Flevoland, and the Intercity that serves Almere Centrum carries on to Lelystad Centrum, then over the Hanzelijn toward Zwolle. Going the other way, the same trains reach Amsterdam Zuid and Schiphol. Lelystad is a much smaller place, set on the IJsselmeer and Markermeer shores with several harbours, and the Oostvaardersplassen, Natuurpark Lelystad and the Marker Wadden islands are nearby. Large business parks with well-known companies give it a local job base.

Like Almere, Lelystad is a planned, modern city, so historic streets are not part of the picture. The difference lies in scale and setting: districts such as Boswijk, Waterwijk, Atolwijk and Warande each have their own character, the centre has largely been rebuilt, and newer living areas like Parkhaven and the golf resort sit by water or greenery. It tends to feel more spread out and open than Almere's larger set of districts, and suits households who want lake air and nature at the edge of town.
