Brabant Water for your rental: from checking the address to handing over keys

New registration and an existing customer's move are different tasks

Brabant Water serves much of North Brabant, with exceptions that make an address check worthwhile. This profile helps you understand the supplier's registration and moving routes, meter readings and billing information. Before arranging an account, confirm who pays for water under your tenancy and keep the reading from the relevant key date.

About Brabant Water

Who Brabant Water is, where it supplies drinking water and what renters should check first.

Brabant Water supplies drinking water across much of North Brabant. Its online services distinguish a new customer registration from an existing customer's move; arranging water is separate from choosing an energy supplier. For renters, the key questions are who pays the supplier, which meter belongs to the home, and which readings apply at key handover.

Where Brabant Water supplies water

The province name is guidance, not an exact boundary: parts of western North Brabant are supplied by Evides. Check the complete address with the Vewin finder and Brabant Water, especially around municipal borders.

Your Brabant Water account, step by step

From registering a new home to the final bill: how Brabant Water handles each step, with a direct link to the official page for it.

  1. Step 1

Register a home with Brabant Water

Use 'Aanmelden als nieuwe klant' with your email, full address, key-handover date and opening reading. Brabant Water allows registration up to three months before the keys are received; when that date is still ahead, it requests the reading afterward. Before registering, check your tenancy agreement and ask who holds the water account. A separate meter does not by itself prove that you need a direct contract: the landlord may invoice the water. Confirm the arrangement to avoid paying twice.

  2. Step 2

    Meter readings for Brabant Water

Brabant Water asks for a reading for the annual account and at a move. In apartment buildings the meter may be in a communal room; its customer-service page explains how to challenge an estimated reading. Where the home has a meter, check that it serves your home, especially in a shared meter cupboard. Follow the supplier’s display instructions and do not invent a reading if access is impossible. Ask the landlord or building manager for access or a dated reading. For a genuinely unmetered home, confirm the applicable billing arrangement instead.

    Submit a reading
  3. Step 3

    Moving with Brabant Water

Existing customers should use the moving flow and deal with both the new and old address. Brabant Water explicitly notes that overlapping key dates can mean water costs at both homes. Do not treat changing the postal address as a completed move. At each key handover, record the actual reading and meter number if the home has a meter, photograph the display and keep the handover report. For an unmetered supply, confirm the supplier’s or landlord’s billing arrangement instead. Use the dates you receive and return the keys, which may differ from the day you move your belongings. Keep the supplier’s confirmation and a forwarding address for the final bill.

  4. Step 4

Bills and tariffs at Brabant Water

The bill separates water consumption, fixed charges and taxes. Some municipal charges may also be collected through Brabant Water. Its 2026 guidance states that De Dommel's water-board charges are collected by BSOB instead; do not assume every regional levy is included. An instalment is an advance, not an all-inclusive price. For a metered supply, compare opening and closing readings; for an unmetered supply, verify the applicable units or billing category. Check the billing dates, consumption, fixed charges and tax lines on the settlement. A short tenancy or low consumption does not automatically remove applicable fixed charges. Use the current official tariff schedule rather than a national average to budget.

Questions about Brabant Water

Answers about registering, moving, meter readings, bills and water quality with Brabant Water, based on its official pages.

Can I register with Brabant Water before I have the keys?

Yes, once the key-handover date is known, you can register up to three months ahead. You do not need to invent a future meter reading: Brabant Water asks for it after handover if it is still missing. Keep the confirmation and respond to that request.

I already moved in but have no opening reading. What does Brabant Water advise?

First check the handover report or ask the landlord, agent or developer for the recorded reading. If it cannot be recovered, Brabant Water asks you to contact customer service with today's reading. Explain that the opening reading is missing rather than presenting today's figure as the handover reading.

Will Brabant Water charge me for both homes while I am moving?

It can. When you receive the new keys before returning the old ones, both addresses can incur water costs during the overlap. Brabant Water also says you can ask about lowering the advance if the old home stands empty for more than three months; have the dates and reading ready.

Why does my Brabant Water bill use an estimated reading?

Brabant Water estimates consumption when it has not received the required reading, including when neither resident supplies one at a move. Compare the estimate with your meter photo and handover report. If you disagree, contact customer service with that evidence so the account can be checked.

Does paying Brabant Water also settle my local water taxes?

Check the individual lines on the bill. Brabant Water may collect some municipal charges, but its drinking-water bill does not necessarily include every local levy. Since 2026, BSOB collects De Dommel's water-board charges separately. A BSOB assessment should therefore not automatically be treated as a duplicate water bill.

Which hardness value should I use for appliances in a Brabant Water home?

Look up your own locality on Brabant Water's official water-hardness page rather than using a single value for the whole province. Use the unit requested by the appliance manufacturer. If you cannot identify your supply area, ask Brabant Water before choosing a setting based on a neighbouring town.

Can I choose a different water supplier at this address?

Drinking-water supply is organised by service area. Check your address with Brabant Water or the Vewin finder; a lower tariff elsewhere does not make that company available at your home. You must still arrange registration or a move when you are the account holder.

Water is included in my rent. Should I register myself?

Ask the landlord who holds the supplier contract and how your water costs are settled. If the landlord supplies and bills the water, first clarify that arrangement instead of opening a second account. Ask for the supplier invoice, relevant readings and an explanation of any shared-cost allocation.

I cannot find the meter or the opening reading. What should I do?

Look in the handover report and ask the landlord or building manager which meter serves the property. Photograph the current display and contact Brabant Water if the handover reading is missing. Do not submit a neighbour's reading, a guessed value or an invented zero. If the home is genuinely unmetered, ask which billing category applies rather than inventing a reading.

There is a leak or no hot water in my rental. Who should I contact?

Use the supplier's official fault page for a mains outage or suspected network problem. For a leak inside the building, shared pressure equipment or a hot-water appliance, also contact the landlord or building manager promptly. A hot-water-only fault does not establish a drinking-water network outage.
