This vibrant city is not only known for its rich history, dating back to its first mention in a 1062 document, but also for its strategic location near the borders of North Brabant and Belgium. Historically, Weert has been a focal point for trade and industry, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries when the wool industry flourished under the protection of the Counts of Horne. The remnants of this prosperous era can still be seen today in the architecture and cultural heritage of the city.
