Leidschendam-Voorburg is a picturesque municipality located in the province of South Holland, known for its unique blend of urban and rural environments. Stretching over 35.60 km², this area is home to approximately 78,246 residents as of January 2024. The municipality is characterized by its division created by the Rijn-Schiekanaal, also known as the Vliet, which separates the urbanized western part, comprising the towns of Voorburg and Leidschendam, from the more serene eastern region that features lush peat meadows and the quaint village of Stompwijk. The area is not only a hub of residential activity but also offers recreational spaces such as the Vogelplas Starrevaart and the Vlietland recreation area, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

The history of Leidschendam-Voorburg is equally captivating, having evolved from the merger of three municipalities: Voorburg, Veur, and Stompwijk. This strategic union in 2002 aimed to preserve the identity of the area amidst pressures from neighboring cities like The Hague. As you wander through the streets, remnants of its historical past are evident in the names of streets, schools, and local landmarks that hark back to its origins. With a rich political landscape and a community that values collaboration, Leidschendam-Voorburg continues to thrive, offering a blend of modern amenities and historical charm that attracts both residents and visitors alike.
