Kapelle, located in the picturesque province of Zeeland, is a village that beautifully blends its rich history with modern amenities. The village's roots can be traced back to the Roman era, with archaeological findings revealing pottery shards from the 3rd century. As you stroll through Kapelle, you can sense the echoes of its past, particularly along the banks of the creek that once defined its landscape in the 10th century. The village evolved from small settlements, with Maalstede being the oldest, where the first chapel was built. This chapel, associated with the castle Maalstede, laid the foundation for the village's name and its growth into one of the largest village churches in Zeeland.

The 14th century saw the arrival of the noble family of Bruelis, who constructed the nearby Bruelis Castle. Kapelle's significance grew with the establishment of the Postweg in the 18th century, positioning it along an important route. The village experienced rapid growth in the 20th century, driven by advancements in fruit cultivation and the establishment of new neighborhoods. Today, Kapelle is a vibrant community with several schools, including the innovative 't Saamdeel, a climate-neutral broad school that houses multiple educational and community services. Visitors can also explore the unique French military cemetery, the only one of its kind in the Netherlands, honoring soldiers who fought during World War II.
