A picturesque municipality known for its historic windmills and charming villages.
Molenlanden is a vibrant municipality in the province of South Holland, formed on January 1, 2019, from the merger of the municipalities of Molenwaard and Giessenlanden. Covering an area of 192 km², it is home to approximately 45,276 residents as of January 2024. The name 'Molenlanden' is a creative blend of the two former municipalities, chosen through a public vote in September 2017. This region is not only known for its beautiful landscapes but also for its rich cultural heritage, highlighted by the iconic Kinderdijk windmills, which are a UNESCO World Heritage site. The local government is active and engaged, with a municipal council consisting of 27 seats, and the current mayor, Theo Segers, took office in January 2020.
