Does the rent cover additional costs like utilities?
The monthly rent usually only covers the property itself. Services such as electricity, water, gas, and internet are often billed separately. Always review the listing or reach out to confirm what’s included.
What paperwork do I need to rent a property?
To submit an application, you’ll typically need a government-issued ID, recent proof of income (or a guarantor’s financial details), and possibly a work or study document. Specific requirements may be outlined in the property details.
How much time does it take to hear back about my application?
Responses to rental applications usually take a few days to a week, but this depends on the landlord’s process and the demand for the property. Be sure to check your email for updates or additional document requests.
Is it possible to adjust the rental price or conditions?
In most cases, landlords set fixed prices and conditions, but it never hurts to ask! Discussing details like longer leases or minor adjustments might be an option depending on the landlord.
What should I do if I have to move out before the lease ends?
If you need to leave early, you might be asked to find someone to take over your lease or pay a fee for breaking the contract. Check your rental agreement for details and talk to your landlord to explore your options.
Hi, I (Rens), a third-year student, am looking for a subtenant while I’m on exchange from September 2025 to January 2026. I am renting out my room only for this 4-month period and not for a longer or shorter duration. The room is furnished and includes a bed, desk, office chair, wardrobe, shelving unit, and wall shelf, providing a comfortable living space for anyone looking to stay in Leiden.
I live with two good friends (20 y/o) in a prime location in Leiden. Less than a 10-minute bike ride from the city center, in Leiderdorp, you’ll find Zijldonk—an apartment complex for both young and old. The shopping center "De Kopermolen" is just a 3-minute walk away, making it convenient for all your shopping needs. Additionally, within 10 minutes on foot, you’ll find yourself in the beautiful polder landscape surrounding Leiden, offering a perfect escape from the city hustle.
Our apartment is very nicely and colorfully decorated, thanks to my housemate. There’s plenty of space in our large living room to have guests over, making it a welcoming environment. It’s important to mention that, despite all three of us being students, this is not your typical student house! Everything is neat and clean, and after last year's renovation, we now have a new kitchen, toilet, bathroom, and flooring, ensuring a modern living experience.
We also have a spacious east-facing balcony, perfect for enjoying the morning sun with a cup of coffee. If you have any questions or are interested in viewing the room, please send me a message! :)
